Service Description
This workshop has been approved by the NJBPTE for 18 CEs (#2304-58) Taught by 3 experienced PTs & yoga teachers, this workshop is designed for rehabilitation professionals with and without yoga experience who are interested in learning how yogic practices can be integrated into rehabilitation plans of care of persons with neurological conditions. The weekend workshop combines the best of a yoga retreat (a relaxed country setting & delicious healthy food) with the best of a continuing education course (practical strategies that can be used on Monday morning with patients/clients). Plus, participants will have over 3 hours on Saturday afternoon to relax and renew by hiking, shopping, reading, sleeping, or skiing (weather permitting). Using a case-based approach, participants will view rehab sessions through two different lenses. One, through the lens of traditional examination and therapeutic interventions. The other, through the lens of a therapeutic yogic approach. Lectures will include a review of scientific literature that supports the practice of yoga for improving function and well-being. Lab activities will allow participants to practice postures, breathing and meditation, and real-world examples of how to apply them to with patients who have neurological concerns. *Prior to the workshop, participants will be required to independently read and appraise scientific articles that will be the basis for discussion throughout the workshop. Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to: - Perform basic yoga postures, breathing and meditation techniques - Select postures, breathing and meditation techniques for patients/clients neurological conditions - Appraise and describe the scientific articles on yogic approaches for persons with neurological conditions - Compare and contrast traditional and yoga intervention for patient conditions This workshop will be held at the Landgrove Inn, Landgrove, VT. It is residential and all participants are highly encouraged to stay at the Landgrove Inn. Rooms are approx. $185 single occupancy per night/per person or approx. $150 double occupancy per night/person, plus tax and services. Room fee includes all meals.
