Integrative Approaches for Pelvic Dysfunctions: Manual Therapy, Breath, Yoga & Nutrition Pelvic floor dysfunctions are present in most of the population and are considered the hidden pandemic. This continuing education workshop is perfect for rehabilitation professionals who want to expand their knowledge of pelvic dysfunctions including back, pelvic and hip pain, incontinence, and constipation. Using a case-based approach, participants will practice examination techniques including palpation, assessment of breathing and movement patterns with a focus on pelvic stability and mobility. Interventions that tap into manual therapy, yogic principles of pranayama, mindfulness and energy-flow, and nutrition will be discussed, practiced, and integrated into rehabilitation plans of care. This workshop includes lecture and lab activities, so please be ready to move up and down off the floor…comfortable clothes are a must! Bring a yoga mat and blanket, if you have them, blocks and bolsters are optional. Prior to the workshop, participants will be required to independently read and appraise a scientific article that will be the basis for discussion during lunch on Sunday. Objectives By the end of this course, participants will be able to: • Identify and palpate anatomical structures of the pelvis • Differentially diagnose pelvic dysfunctions and treat them within your scope of practice • Perform basic yoga postures, breathing and meditation techniques • Select postures, breathing and meditation techniques for patients/clients with pelvic health and orthopedic concerns • Critically appraise a meta-analysis on exercise for pelvic floor function • Compare and contrast traditional and yoga-inspired interventions for patients with pelvic dysfunctions
