Service Description

The workshop component of this has been submitted for approval to the NJBPTE for 20.0 CEs.* This excursion and workshop is an immersive educational experience that combines evidence-based integrative therapies with a cultural exchange in the vibrant setting of Cuba. The 20-hours of workshops, will be spread over seven days, with many including Cuban healthcare providers and movement experts. Participants will engage in lectures, hands-on labs, and cultural activities, gaining practical insights into the intersection of mind-body interventions (MBIs), traditional rehabilitation techniques, and Cuban movement traditions. Every day, participants will tour and engage with locals so that they leave with an appreciation of Cuba's history and culture, including nature, food, coffee, music, and art. Please refer to the itinerary and FAQs for additional details. *Before traveling to Cuba, participants must view several assigned videos on Cuba’s history and demographics, its complex relationship with the US, and the influence of the African Diaspora in Cuban culture. Additionally, participants must attend a 30-minute Zoom meeting, time TBD, to review and discuss cultural competence and travel logistics. Educational Objectives By the end of this excursion, participants will be able to: • Demonstrate strategies for implementing movement and injury prevention education in underserved populations. • Apply core-centric movement principles, incorporating concepts of strength, flexibility, and diaphragmatic function, for chronic pain and health conditions • Integrate MBIs and cultural insights from the Cuban experience into professional practice to enhance patient/client care and teaching methods.
