Yogi Anatomy Goes to Cuba!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are we legally allowed to travel to Cuba?

Yes, we are going for educational purposes. The US government allows citizens to travel to Cuba for educational purposes. Our travel agency, Colibiri Travel, will handle all visas and documentation. Colibiri Travel partners with the Cuban embassy to issue visas. They fulfill all OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets) regulations.

What is included in the price of this workshop?

The price of the workshop, in addition to 20 CEUS, includes all travel within Cuba, transport to and from the airport, seven (7) nights at a private bed and breakfast, 24-hour bilingual tour leader, most lunches and dinners.  There will be an opportunity for participants to have dinner on their own two (2) evenings, these meals are not included in the price of the workshop.

Will there be any additional expenses?

The workshop cost does not include airfare. We highly suggest that people travel from Newark to Havana on American Airlines. We will contact registered participants with the suggested flight plans.  There are also flights to Havana on United through Houston.

Two dinners are not included in the workshop cost to give all participants an opportunity to choose their evening experience. Participants will be able to explore suggested restaurants on their own and/or experience some of Havana’s nightlife.

How does the money work in Cuba?

We can exchange dollars for Cuban pesos upon arrival at our casas (bed and breakfast). All purchases, tips, etc., within Cuba, must be paid in cash, as our credit cards WILL NOT work in Cuba. The Cuban peso is a closed currency, so you cannot obtain it from your bank or other vendors in the United States as you might if traveling to other countries.

Upon arrival at our casas (bed and breakfast), the travel agent will assist you in exchanging dollars for Cuban pesos.

Is tipping expected in Cuba?

It is appropriate to tip people who clean your room, our drivers, servers and other service people we encounter on our journey.  At the beginning of the workshop, we will ask people for approximately $80.  This will suffice for all tipping including those who clearn your rooms, serve us breakfast, and our tour guides.  The tips will be managed by our guide along the way.  Upon arrival, the travel agent will make suggestions regarding tipping for those times when you might eat out on your own or opt to give someone a tip outside our group experience.

Will my cell phone work in Cuba?

Most major cell phone carriers based in the US will not work effectively in Cuba.  It's possible that your phone will work if you enable roaming but the cell phone charges might be steep.  When we are in places with WiFi, you will be able to make Wifi calls, send texts or messages. We will do our best to ensure that there are hotspots available daily to allow everyone to connect.

We also highly recommend downloading WhatsApp on your cellular phone.  This will allow you to connect with family while you are traveling.  We will set up a WhatsApp group for all participants before arriving in Havana to facilitate communication during the workshop.

Do I need a Visa to go to Cuba?

Yes, the visas will be organized through Colibiri Travel Tours.  You will be responsible for having a valid Passport.  After you register for the workshop, we will need your passport information to begin the visa process.

Can we bring anything to donate on our trip to Cuba?

Yes!  When it gets closer, we will provide a list of things that are very much needed by the general population and by the professional population.  Items like summer clothes, over the counter medications, unused prescription medications, therapeutic supplies, yoga props, etc are all very much needed.

What if I register and need to cancel?

If there are extenuating circumstances and YogiAnatomy cancels the trip, all participants will be notified by email and all course fees will be reimbursed. YogiAnatomy will not reimburse for airfare. You should contact your carrier for information regarding canceling your airline ticket.

If a participant must cancel before February 1, 2026, YogiAnatomy will attempt to fill that spot. If that spot is filled, all but $25 will be refunded within 30 days of the cancellation notice. If that spot cannot be filled, no refund will be given, but a $500 credit can be applied to future courses offered by YogiAnatomy.

No refunds will be given if a participant cancels after February 1, 2026, but a $500 credit can be applied to future courses offered by YogiAnatomy.

How can I register for the trip?

On the YogiAnatomy homepage, select "Workshop" and then "In-Person Workshops."  There is also a link on our homepage under the heading CUBA.

Is it possible to extend my trip or arrive early before the workshop begins?

Yes!  Arriving early or staying a few extra days is easily arranged with Colibri Travel Tours, our travel agent.   Upon registering, we can direct you to our travel agent to discuss any additional days you would like to stay.  Payment for the extra days/nights will be handled directly through the travel agent.
